Bennington Friends Meeting
Meeting for Worship on the Occasion of Business
Held at the Senior Citizens Service Center,
Bennington, Vermont
April 20, 2014
Present were Timmy Bullock, clerk, Priscilla Tracy, Juliet Wright, Eliza Navias-Bell, Auberta Galusha, Bain Davis and Arnold Ricks
Here is where Friends can contribute to community by refusing to follow the religious individualism of our times. Behind these new movements lies the assumption that truth is totally subjective – one truth for you another for me, and never mind the difference. But when we understand truth that way then the truth we are given will have no chance to transform society of ourselves. If we affirm community we must risk that our partial versions of truth will be enlarged or even made uncouth by the light given to others.
Parker J. Palmer, 1980
Out of the silence the clerk read the above quotation from Parker Palmer.
The recording clerk read the minutes for meeting for business for March 16, 2014, which were approved.
Priscilla Tracy reported on behalf of Ministry and Counsel that there were not minutes for the meeting held on April 13, 2014.
2014-11 Meeting for business worked as a whole on the State of Society Report and we will review another draft at next month’s meeting for business.
2014-12 Arnold Ricks reported on behalf of Finance Committee. Meeting for business approved the two minutes from finance committee. They are appended.
After a period of silent worship the meeting adjourned.

Meeting of the Finance Committee on Thursday, April 3, 2014
Present: Maryann St. John, clerk, Arnold Ricks. Timmy Bullock, Eliza Navias-Bell
1. We reviewed our 2013 report and looked toward our 2014 budget and noted that contributions from Meeting members exceeded our expenses. We recommend the same budget levels and level of giving in the next fiscal year: our contribution to NEYM and Quarterly paid in full in the second quarter; contributions budgeted at $300 and under paid in full to organizations and half the amount of budgeted contributions over $300 to be paid in the second quarter, with the remainder of those budget lines paid as we assess our donations at the end of the second quarter. Arnold also noted that we might adjust our donation to the Yearly Meeting. Timmy agreed to obtain more information about other meetings’ level of giving to NEYM.
2. Eliza prepared a spreadsheet comparison of investment returns of Vanguard GNMA and the NEYM investment fund. After some discussion about our GNMA fund, we decided to continue to monitor its progress and do not recommend any action at this time.
