Bennington Friends Meeting
Minutes for Meeting for Worship on the Occasion of Business
Sunday, June 27, 2010
“Most Friends understand that the sense of the meeting does not necessarily mean 100 percent approval. However, it does mean that Friends are in unity. Unity is a far stronger definition than ‘general agreement’ or ‘solidarity in sentiment and belief.’ The sense of the meeting means that, while some Friends may not be in full agreement regarding a proposed course of action, they are willing for the meeting to move forward.”
Elwood Cronk, cited in Silence and Witness, The Quaker Tradition, Michael L. Birkel.
Present were Timmy Bullock, Juliet Wright, Auberta Galusha, Beth Cheadle, Maurice Kahn, Peggy Kahn
Out of the silence the clerk read the above quotation.
2010-32 The recording clerk read the minutes for meeting for worship on the occasion of business for May 16, 2010. They were approved.
2010-33 The minutes for Ministry and Counsel for June 13, 2010 were read, approved and are appended.
2010-34 Reflecting on a suggestion made at the end of Meeting for Worship on June 13 that we hold hands for a more extended time, the meeting felt it would leave open that possibility as someone feels led by the spirit.
2010-35 The meeting has agreed to change the date of the retreat to October 2 -3, 2010.
2010-36 The Nominating Committee report was read, approved and is appended. The meeting has accepted and approved Nominating Committees slate of Officers and Committee members. One vacancy is still under consideration.
After a period of silent worship the meeting adjourned.

Meeting of Ministry & Counsel
Present: Timmy Bullock, Priscilla Tracy (Co-Clerks), Bain Davis, Auberta Galusha and Beth Cheadle
Pastoral Concerns were discussed
14.10 Reflecting on a suggestion made at the end of Meeting for Worship on June 13 that we hold hands for a more extended time, do we wish to experiment with this suggestion? Questions to ask ourselves: Why would we do this? How? If so, at what point?
15.10 Ministry & Counsel members will undertake to read the book, My Mother, Your Mother, which addressed issues of aging. We will try to discern whether it would be useful and helpful for the Meeting as a whole to undertake the reading and discussion of this book.
16-10 Ministry & Counsel suggests the weekend of October 2-3 as the dates for our annual retreat; this date is convenient for our potential co-leader of our retreat, Jonathan Vogelborne.
17.10 Ministry & Counsel will invite Corinna Dalzell (name and home address to be verified), the young woman who has faithfully attended meeting most Sundays this spring, to meet with Ministry & Counsel on her return to college in the fall. We hope to learn more about how we can respond and reach out to her concerns and priorities – and those of the young friends she brings with her to meeting.
18.10 Ministry & Counsel will invite Janet Spitz to meet with Ministry & Counsel at its July 11 meeting. Our discussion will center around exploring the approach that Janet might bring to leading a discussion on the topic, Radical Inclusiveness, with particular reference to the FUM letter concerning personnel policy.
